SOCIAL POSTS Did you know mindful eating is associated with less binging, restricting, emotional eating, body image issues and higher self-esteem. Mindful eating is a practice that encourages being present and enjoying every bite of food without judgment. Mindful eating can help athletes and active adults get in tune with true physiological hunger versus eating for emotional reasons or due to environmental cues such as the smell of fresh hot cinnamon buns. Mindful eating is associated with decreased binging, restricting, emotional eating and body issues. Mindful eating is not a weight loss diet and is not intended to help people lose weight. y Mindful eating begins with the first thought about food and lasts until the food is finished. Prior to reaching for food, a person can stop and notice what they are feeling and why they are reaching for food. Are they stressed, bored, angry, lonely or sad are they truly physiologically hungry? Being mindful can help decrease trying to cope with feelings through food and eating. y Mindful eating involves intentionally eating and putting away distractions while paying full attention to the experience of eating and the food that is eaten. A person who is practicing mindful eating will ask themselves how the food tasted, what spices were used in the food preparation process, what is the texture of the food and how it helps satisfy their hunger. After each bite they can check in and see if it’s time to stop eating or if they are still physiologically hungry. y Eating mindfully takes time and requires a commitment to behavior change. 5

Ingredients
CHEESECAKE • 1 lb sweetpotato peeled • 2 Tbsp butter • 1 egg • ¼ lb mascarpone • ¼ lb chevre
CHOCOLATE BUTTERMILK
COCOA NIB GRANOLA • 1/4 cup oats • 2 Tbsp brown sugar • 2 Tbsp shredded coconut • 2 Tbsp pistachios • 1 Tbsp oil • 3 Tbsp cocoa nibs •
SMOKED CHOCOLATE SWEETPOTATO TRUFFLE • Hickory chips for smoking • ¼ lb dark chocolate • ¼ lb pureed cooked sweetpotato • ¼ c cream • Reserved Cocoa Nib Granola
• 1 cup milk • 1 egg
• 1/4 lb milk choc • 1 cup buttermilk
CHEVRE MOUSSE
• 1/4 lb chevre • 1/2 c creamed
Directions 1. CHEESECAKE: Boil sweet potato until tender, and puree in a processor until smooth. While hot, add butter and puree. With motor running, add egg. Beat in mascarpone and chevre and transfer to a piping bag. 2. CHOCOLATE BUTTERMILK: Heat milk until hot, and quickly whisk in egg, then milk chocolate. Stir in buttermilk. 3. CHEVRE MOUSSE: Combine chevre and cream in a processor and blend until smooth and creamy. Allow to set slightly in the fridge. 4. COCOA NIB GRANOLA: Combine all ingredients except cocoa nibs and bake at 375, stirring frequently, until brown and crispy, 45-60 minutes. Allow to cool slightly and place in a processor. Add cocoa nibs and blend into crumbs. 5. SMOKED CHOCOLATE-SWEETPOTATO TRUFFLE: Place wood chips in the bottom of a smoke proof pan (basically, a pan you don’t mind destroying. An old loaf pan works nice.) Place chips over heat to begin smoking. Wrap chocolate in foil, poking holes all around to let smoke in. Drop chocolate pack onto smoking chips and cover the whole thing tightly. Remove it from heat and allow smoke to dissipate. Melt chocolate and combine it with sweet potato and cream. Allow to set in the fridge, then roll into truffles, coating with granola crumbs.
